How to Build a Subscription SaaS With Lovable

To build a subscription SaaS with Lovable, first make the core product useful, then add accounts, plans, built-in payments and protected feature access. Subscriptions should update from provider payment events, not from a browser redirect. Add a Manage subscription button so customers can cancel or update billing details.

What you need

You need a defined customer problem, a plan structure and a project eligible for built-in payments. Start a project with Join Lovable. Store user and subscription records in a database; without accounts you cannot reliably connect a subscription to a person.

1. Build the paid value first

Choose one result customers will pay for, such as saved client reports. Build and test that workflow before checkout. Payment does not repair an unclear product.

2. Define plans and entitlements

Write what each plan unlocks, for example “Free: three reports; Pro: unlimited reports”. Decide what happens during trials, failed renewals, cancellations and plan changes. Avoid promising features that are not built.

Plan a subscription SaaS for consultants. Free users may create three reports. Pro users may create unlimited reports. Use accounts, built-in payments and database entitlements. Update access only from verified payment events. Explain trial, cancellation and failed-payment behaviour before implementing.

3. Add payments and products

Ask Lovable to enable built-in payments and create monthly or yearly prices. Lovable recommends a provider based on product and location. Complete the provider form, then let Lovable create the products.

4. Protect paid features on the backend

Hide upgrade buttons for clarity, but enforce limits in protected data operations. A user editing their browser must not unlock Pro features. Keep Lovable’s payment webhook endpoints enabled so subscription records stay current.

5. Test the complete lifecycle

In preview, subscribe with a test card and confirm Pro access after reload. Cancel through the hosted portal and verify what the app shows. Test a denied payment and an unauthenticated visitor. The customer portal opens in a new tab and does not work inside the editor preview panel.

FAQs

Can I edit prices in the provider dashboard?

Prefer asking Lovable to create and update products and prices, to avoid test and live mismatches.

Can I offer trials or discounts?

Lovable can configure them. Discounts do not sync from test to live during publishing.

Is a success page enough?

No. Treat confirmed payment events as the source for access.
