How to Connect a Custom Domain to Lovable

To connect a custom domain to Lovable, open Project settings → Domains → Connect domain, enter your root domain or subdomain, then add the DNS records Lovable shows at your domain provider — or let Lovable add them automatically. Once DNS has spread, Lovable issues your SSL certificate and your domain serves the app. Custom domains need a paid plan, and the project must be published before the domain serves content.

Before you begin

  • A published Lovable project — publish first if you have not already (see the publishing tutorial on this site).
  • A paid Lovable plan, because custom domains are not available on the free plan.
  • Access to your domain provider’s DNS settings. If you have not got a domain yet, buy one at any registrar, or join Lovable and build the site first.

Choose a root domain or a subdomain

A root domain is yourdomain.com. When you connect one, Lovable also sets up www.yourdomain.com and, by default, redirects the www address to the root. A subdomain is something like app.yourdomain.com — useful when your main domain points elsewhere, for example at email or an existing site.

Connect the domain

  1. Open Project settings → Domains (or Publish → Add domain) and click Connect domain.

  2. Enter your domain and choose root or subdomain. For a root domain, leave Redirect www.yourdomain.com → yourdomain.com on unless you have a reason not to.

  3. Add the DNS records. The easiest path is automatic setup, where Lovable asks your detected provider to add the records. For manual setup, copy the exact verification value shown in Lovable’s setup window and add:

    • Root domain: an A record with host @ pointing to 185.158.133.1, plus a TXT record with host _lovable and the shown lovable_verify=… value.
    • For www: its own A record with host www (same IP) and a TXT record with host _lovable.www using the value from the www setup window.
    • Subdomain: an A record with host app (your label), plus TXT at _lovable.app.

Use TTL 300 seconds or your provider’s default. Some providers need a blank host field or the full domain instead of @.

  4. Remove conflicting records for the hostnames you are connecting — old A, AAAA or CNAME records from a previous host can block setup. Leave MX records alone so email keeps working.

  5. Click Check status in Lovable. DNS propagation can take up to 72 hours, although it is often much quicker.

  6. Wait for SSL. Lovable issues and installs the certificate automatically. Avoid opening the domain while it is provisioning — browsers may show a security warning mid-setup. If setup stalls, click Retry; if you use CAA records, they must allow Lovable’s certificate authorities.

Ask Lovable for help at any point:

I am connecting the custom domain example.com. Show me the exact DNS records I need to add at my provider, including the verification TXT values.

Set the primary domain

The first custom domain usually becomes primary automatically. To change it, open the three-dot menu next to a Live domain in Project settings → Domains and choose Set as primary. Other connected domains then redirect to the primary with a temporary 302 redirect. Choose Unset as primary if you prefer every domain to serve the app at its own address.

How to verify it works

  • The domain shows Live on the Domains page.
  • https://yourdomain.com loads the app without a certificate warning.
  • www.yourdomain.com redirects to the root (if you kept the redirect on).
  • Your original lovable.app address still works.

Common errors and fixes

  • Stuck on verifying. A conflicting old A, AAAA or CNAME record usually blocks setup. Remove duplicates for the hostname and check again.
  • SSL fails. Check CAA records allow the certificate authorities Lovable uses, then click Retry.
  • Email stopped working. You probably deleted or changed MX records. Restore them at your provider — they are unrelated to the website records.
  • A security warning in the browser. The certificate may still be provisioning. Wait for the domain to show Live before visiting.

Frequently asked questions

How long does DNS take? Up to 72 hours; most domains are ready much sooner.

Can I connect several domains? Yes. One is primary and the others redirect to it, unless you unset the primary.

Can I connect only a subdomain? Yes — enter the full subdomain such as app.yourdomain.com.

Does this cost extra? Custom domains require a paid Lovable plan; the domain itself you buy at a registrar.

Official sources and next steps

Once your domain is live, submit it to Google Search Console and add analytics. If you need a project to connect, join Lovable and publish one first.
