How to Configure a Remixed Lovable App Before Launch

How to Configure a Remixed Lovable App Before Launch

Before launching a Lovable remix, configure its own services and secrets, test authentication and any payments, review data access and publish only after the main workflow works. The source project’s working integrations are not proof that your independent copy is ready.

What you will learn and need

You will learn what a remix leaves behind and how to turn that into a launch checklist. You need your own project, authorised service accounts and safe test data. Not every app needs accounts or payments: configure only what your app actually uses. Join Lovable if you have not made your copy yet.

1. Audit configuration before making changes

Code and database structure copy; database records, secrets, custom domains, collaborators and service connections do not. A remix starts unpublished. Review any storage dependencies rather than assuming uploaded business files transfer. Optional Files-tab copying is not the same as a promise that all backend storage objects are copied.

Audit this remixed app for launch without editing it. List its required configuration for data, authentication, storage, email, payments and external APIs. Distinguish copied structure from missing records and credentials. Flag references to the original owner and identify which integrations are genuinely used.

2. Configure your data and authentication

Check that the app handles empty tables correctly. Create only your own authorised records. Test signup, sign-in, sign-out and password recovery if these flows exist. For social sign-in, review the new app’s provider configuration and register its callback or authorised addresses as required by that provider. Use the provider’s exact documented values; do not guess redirect addresses.

3. Reconnect external services securely

Add private credentials through the project’s supported secrets setup, never as text in public app code. Verify each connection belongs to your organisation. Test storage uploads and permissions, email sender configuration and API failure states separately.

4. Test payments without charging real customers

For an app using your own Stripe connection, begin with a test-mode key and matching test product/price IDs. The Stripe guide warns that a live key can produce real payments even from preview. Moving live requires the correct live key and live product/price IDs. Built-in payments have a different managed setup; follow the actual integration your app uses.

5. Review security and publication settings

Lovable’s publish flow runs a Quick security scan. Findings do not automatically block publishing, so inspect them rather than treating publication as proof of security. Use a deeper review where appropriate, especially for sensitive data. Verify private screens cannot be reached or queried by unauthorised users.

6. Publish and connect the intended domain

Custom domains do not transfer from the source. Custom domains require a paid plan and can be connected through project domain settings or the publish dialog. The app must be published before the domain serves content. Re-test authentication and any callbacks on the actual live address.

How to verify launch readiness

Run the main workflow from a fresh visitor session with safe input. Confirm its result persists and reads back. Test errors, access restrictions, mobile layout and legal/contact pages. Verify payment events and service delivery in their own test environments; a successful-looking screen is not enough.

Common errors

  • Login redirects to an old address: inspect provider and app configuration for the new origin.
  • Payments unexpectedly real: stop and verify key mode before retrying.
  • Demo looked populated but remix is empty: records are not copied.
  • Security scan ran, so everything is safe: review findings and test permissions yourself.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need Stripe for every remix?

No. Only configure payments if the app requires them.

Can I paste private keys into a prompt?

Use the supported secret entry flow; do not put keys into public source or shared content.

Does a custom domain carry over?

No. Connect and verify your own domain separately.
